Milan ..

Galleria vittorio Emmanuelle

Passing thru Swiss

Ello !!
Today in Milan was fabulous….last night slept really well…10 hrs of sleep…woke up to a good breakfast….nothing like free breakfast to set you in a good mood…
Our things to do list was ready in belfort itself so we just asked for metro directions and started our day….went to the Duomo first….which was sooooo amazing…we just got out of the metro station an there it was a great big structure looking above us….it looks so gothic…with sharp spires…and so big..
The inside was beautiful too…its known for its stained glass windows…also inside they showcase beautiful paintings..its a church and it’s a Sunday so we were in time for a Sunday mass…the sunlight streaming in through the glass painted windows and the oil paintings and the organs playing and the superb architecture…felt really good…
After this we paid 6 E to climb up the Duomo…260 steps and a great view….also up there sits the Madonna….a beautiful golden statue woman…:D
And it was sunny up there…its sunny in milan J but not hot….its not freezing either…but anything feels better than Belfort…
Right beside the Duomo is the Galaria Emmanuelle which is this fancy building..almost like a mall..for rich people…has the fancy stores…here is the “torro” or the bull…a painting on the floor of the galary…which is .. missing its private parts..:p
I read online that one must go stand on it and turn around and spin on it…so we went and spun on the bulls balls…:D it is for good luck !
Done with this we went to a place called Navigli…which Is a like a venice copycat…with a canal built by Leonardo da vinci….and it had a flea market on either side of the water body and pretty bridge…this place is also known for its food joints…loads of them…
So we browsed the flea mrket…I purchased this really pretty jacket…then we started looking for a place to eat ..the best part abt Europe is that the menu cards are usually posted outside each resto..so you can look and judge if you can afford the place and it has the kind of food you want…
We found the best place ! it was open only for Sunday from 12-2..and we were right on time…it had the cheapest food…so we went it and it was basically a gathering of people who cook at home and sell their food here…so we had authentic Italian !! :D the others had lasagne and I ate Palenta..the only vegetarian on the menu..basically corn pudding with cheese on it…and then we all ordered hot chocolate….and here in italy hot chocolate is not bournvita…it is really “ hot chocolate “ like melted hot chocolate…..the most sinfully delicious thick creamy brown melted chocolate…..
So done with great lunch we next went to the Quadrilatero d’or….or the quadrilateral of gold….
And this is the heart of the city….it proves why Milan is the fashion capital…the woman walking around here are the stereotypes….fur…Gucci prada and chanel shopping bags in their hands…towering heels….chihauhas tottering behind them and of course handsome men/old balding men on their hands….
So we walked around here…peering through the windows of all the shops whose names we have just heard of….it was surreal….and even more so to look at people actually strolling past us carrying a bunch of bags with the snazzy names on them….we cant even imagine a lifestyle that lets you get into one of those stores and say oh that looka pretty ill pick it up…and if you get run over in this area….it ll be by somethig fancy…like a ferrari or a harley….so not a bad way to go I guess…:p
We four were just walking into each other and running into things because were were so busy looking at the spectacular window displays to look at where we were going…Having been bedazzled we next headed back toward the Duomo…got some souvenirs…went into mc donalds got some hot coffee cuz we all had a headache….and went inside the Duomo again because there was a christmas concert going on…with a choir and an orchestra….it sounded really beautiful but we dint stay too long….
Went back to Navigli for dinner….ordered pizza(naturally) to take away….went and sat beside the canal and blissfully ate…..like 9 by then so sat on the tram…went back to the Duomo…said bye bye to it….sat on the metro and got back to the hostel….
So ya…that was pretty much my day !
Amazing ! J tomoro morning train to venice at 7.30….so next mail to you will be from there !!
Had a nice shower just now….going to hit the bed….gnite !!
Love
